VW Bug
« on: May 26, 2009, 11:46:35 AM »
Of all the cars I'd like to see made for TS2, top of the list is the VW Beetle or Super Beetle (they're virtually identical).  Meshes for these are doubtless available at the gta site, since this is a pretty well-known and common car.

This is only one of the most iconic and easily-recognized automobiles ever made, and I wish one of the top-ranked designers would turn their hands to making a faithful repoduction of the old Bug.  The version that was made (many years ago) of this car is terribly bad.  It is nowhere near the right proportions, the shape is wrong, there is no interior, there are no details... it is so awful I threw it out of my d/l folder, leaving all my poorer Sims with virtually no choice but to drive Tre's beautiful Pinto.  With all the expensive muscle cars and sports cars and luxury cars out there, the Bug would fill a very important void.

This is a nice request.  Currently I have way to many projects to work on another but maybe in the future if noone else does it I may be able to work on one.

By "the version many years ago", do you mean the one from exnemsims? I tried to look it up but it seems like they have no more community downloads...

Yeah Exnems got hacked again,  2nd time in just a few months,  so they are trying to get all the community downloads and everything set back up but it may take awhile cause they dont have a recent back up of the site.

Exnem is back up again, but there seems to be no VW in their downloads.

It's a recession when your neighbour loses his job: it's a depression when you lose yours. And i have another one.

I never got permission from that creator from that one and that has to be the only decent meshes available

Raises an interesting question about proprietary rights.  Legally, of course, any content made by fans for games and publicly posted is fair game, no matter how much the creators of same might whine and complain.  It is a courtesy to a designer to abide by their whims in these matters, it is not a matter of right.  (I have had several discussions with lawyers on this subject)

If in fact the only decent mesh available is the one at gta, then the creator of it at the very least owes you the courtesy of a reply if you are kind enough to ask his permission to use it.  It seems to me that if an individual refuses courtesy, he is not entitled to it; OTOH one doesn't wish for his own conduct to be dictated by someone else's rudeness.

IMO, refusing permission to use a publicly-distributed mesh has something rather dog-in-the-manger about it.  But this is a matter for one's own whimsy to decide.

I was able to talk to one of the admins on the gta site and he said the same thing, so I decided to put the car in TS2
